The influence of deposition process parameters on protective properties of silane films

Chromates and phosphates have traditionally been used in order to protect metallic surfaces from corrosion processes. Due to their high toxicity and carcinogenicity, silane- based thin films are now successfully tested as an alternative pre-treatment for various metals and their alloys. The silane film deposition procedure is easy applicable by several methods such as conventional dip-coating, electro-assisted deposition, spin-coating or by spraying and wiping. The protective properties of silane film (structure, stability in time, compactness, resistance to corrosion attack) are related to the parameters of the silane solution (type of silane, composition and concentration, pH) as well as application method and drying process at a fixed temperature of the deposited film. The paper discusses the influence of the parameters of the deposition process on the protective properties of silane films.

Presently, the basic determinant for concrete quality constitutes not the compressive strength but its long-term durability in complicated environmental conditions and especially for the case of action of temperatures variable in sign and de-icing agents onto the structure. The above thesis guided the authors of the code PN-EN 206+A1:2016-12 and its national appendix PN-B-06265:2018-10, adjusting the European codes regulations into local conditions. In the paper there are presented the basic assumptions and steps that should be taken by concrete mix designer in order to ensure the adequate durability of material. Those information were confronted with the requirements of the largest investor in Poland – General National Roads and Motorways Management, which were included in the document published this year titled “Implementation conditions and acceptance of construction works – concrete in road engineering structures”.

Shotcreting as an example of an effective technology for preventing the corrosion and erosion of reinforeced concrete, brick and other surfaces

The basic types of shotcreting, their applications, as well as the effectiveness of the method in protecting existing concrete, reinforced concrete, and brick structures against corrosion is discusses. Examples of the use this technology for rock and excavation protection and in tunnel construction are presented. The application of the shotcrete technology in new, thin-walled structures was discussed on the example of the curvilinear wall constructed in 2012 at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw (the technology was awarded the statuette of Rdzawa Kania 2017 granted by PSK for the best technological solution of the year; the company for this implementation received an award in the US for „Outstanding international project” – ed. note).
